What an incredible weekend we had! Saturday was particularly special with not just one, but two amazing events.

The second highlight of the day was preparing the field—a huge step forward in an exciting journey. I want to extend a massive thank you to the New Forest Tractor and Engine Preservation Society for their incredible support in ploughing and cultivating the land, getting it ready for seed drilling and sowing this week.

We’ll be planting around six acres of barley, with an expected August harvest—and I couldn’t be more excited! Now, here’s a thought… we all know barley makes great beer, but what other spirits could we craft from it? 🤔

What an incredible weekend we had! Saturday was particularly special with not just one, but two amazing events.

First up was the New Forest Hounds Clean Boot Hunt, marking the closing meet of the season. It was a fantastic day filled with great company, thrilling moments, and a wonderful atmosphere.

The day started with a delicious breakfast and exquisite canapés, expertly prepared by @colinnashattheretreat and his amazing team. As the afternoon rolled in, @skinny_malinkys fired up an incredible BBQ, making for the perfect end to the gathering.

A huge thank you to the DTA Team for all their hard work in making the day a success. We truly appreciate everyone who joined us, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Looking forward to hosting the New Forest Hounds Closing Meet this Saturday, March 22nd, at 10:45 AM!

The brewery will be open as usual, but due to the number of horses and hounds, the main car park will be closed until 4 PM, as it serves as the starting point for the run. Instead, we’ve opened the events field car park, which will be clearly signposted. Visitors can access the brewery by walking over the road via the back side gate.
We appreciate your understanding and hope to see you there!

In a world where fox hunting is rightly prohibited and considered a punishable crime, the innovative approach of the New Forest Hounds in "hunting humans" presents a refreshing twist. It reminded me of the exhilarating games of manhunt we played as children, albeit on horseback!

Here are some key highlights I observed:
• The bloodhounds, with their remarkable olfactory abilities, exclusively pursue human runners, a practice fondly known as "Hunting the Clean Boot" or "hunting the natural scent of a man."
• Unlike conventional hunts, no artificial scent is employed; only the sweat of a human serves as the trail.
• Participation in bloodhound hunting is open to all, with meets accessible to anyone interested.
• The Bloodhounds Meet Card, readily available on the hunt's website, provides information on upcoming events.
• It's important to note that bloodhound hunting is a fully legal and accepted activity by all involved.
• The sole focus of the bloodhounds is on human runners, and at the end of a hunt, their interaction is marked by affectionate licking and slobbering.
• For those interested in joining the thrill, the Quarry Club, designed for runners, extends a warm invitation to all capable individuals.

It's imperative to acknowledge the specific breed of hounds employed in these hunts; they are Bloodhounds, not drag hounds or Foxhounds.

Once again, thank you to the New Forest Hounds for providing such a remarkable experience. Your commitment to preserving tradition while innovating in harmony with nature is truly commendable.

"Hair of the dog" is a colloquial expression in the English language predominantly used to refer to alcohol that is consumed with the aim of lessening the effects of a hangover. The expression originally referred to a method of treatment of a rabid dog bite by placing hair from the dog in the bite wound.
The use of the phrase as a metaphor for a hangover treatment dates back to the time of William Shakespeare[citation needed]. Ebenezer Cobham Brewer writes in the Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (1898): "In Scotland it is a popular belief that a few hairs of the dog that bit you applied to the wound will prevent evil consequences. Applied to drinks, it means, if overnight you have indulged too freely, take a glass of the same wine within 24 hours to soothe the nerves. 'If this dog do you bite, soon as out of your bed, take a hair of the tail the next day.'" He also cites two apocryphal poems containing the phrase, one of which is attributed to Aristophanes. It is possible that the phrase was used to justify an existing practice, and the idea of Latin: similia similibus curantur ("like cures like") dates back at least to the time of Hippocrates. In the 1930s cocktails known as Corpse Revivers were served in hotels.
